το Nectar and Nekyia,

WHY I LOVE... Vasilis Tsabropoulos
But to me, he is even more special because, on top of all, he has the extraordinary
gift to improvise and find the balance between musical precision and musical
freedom. And this is something I did not have to read somewhere; I heard it and
felt it for myself.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY I LOVE... Vasilis Tsabropoulos
Not
so long ago, our beloved friends Ioanna and Makis brought us a CD as a gift
when they visited us. “We chose it specifically for you”, Ioanna said. How sweet
and what a great honor!
I
eagerly unwrapped the gift, but couldn’t understand much from its rather simple
cover. “This is a piano CD. Are you familiar with Tsabropoulos?“ I wasn’t. “I’ll
be glad to hear it”. The conversation ended just about there, with Ioanna encouraging
me to listen to it in a time when I would need relaxation. Right after that, we
chatted, laughed, had dinner, and enjoyed ourselves like friends do. The CD called
You was forgotten for a few days
on the dining table.
On
the next Saturday, and while I was trying to finish a jigsaw puzzle, I remembered
the CD. I turned up the volume slightly more than usual and returned to my puzzle,
determined to finish it. At least so I thought... From the very first seconds I was shivering and within
the first minutes, I inexplicably started to tear.
It
wasn’t just his crystal-clear playing that moved me; neither his incredible
ability to “play” with the rhythm. What truly touched me was the fact that I could
feel an absolute truth and an unsurpassed sensitivity flowing through his
music. All music pieces in You are
composed by Vasilis Tsabropoulos and, apart from the fact that they allow
the listener to recognize his pianistic virtuosity, they also indicate the
purity of his soul.
So
I googled him (we truly are lucky to live in the technology era) and I found out
that he is an exceptional internationally renowned musician, who has worked
with the greatest philharmonic orchestras globally (Philarmonia Orchestra of
London, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Stockholm, Boston Philarmonic
Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Budapest Chamber Orchestrate, Sofia Philharmonic,
and Italy Radio Orchestra, etc.). Moreover, I discovered he uniquely combines classical
and byzantine music, which I find really interesting, and that he is a
conductor.
Vasilis Tsabropoulos made me love even
more the piano. He made me want to get better and to practice more-and there is
a lot of room for improvement...
You
may listen to 55 minutes of his music here, and I
am sure you’ll know what I mean. In addition, the music piece that totally captivated
me is Nectar and Nekyia, the
first of the 9 pieces in You.
P.S.
It wouldn’t hurt if every once and a while we listened to this kind of music
with our children. And we would probably be amazed by their reaction.
